Subsidiary VAGONMASH CJSC - Petersburg Tram-Mechanical Factory OJSC has shipped the last two trams to Moscow for delivery in 2010.

Recall that in the autumn of this year PTMF began making for the capital of the country 23 trams of the model 71-153 with partially low-floor level.

This model has been in serial production since 2008 and is already operated in Tula, St. Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk and Donetsk (the Ukraine).

However, the trams delivered to Moscow have their own specifics. Thus, the painting of the tramcars were specially agreed with the State Unitary Enterprise “Mosgortrans”. Moreover, all tramcars were equipped with automated system of travel checkup (ASTC) with original structure of horizontal sliding door for the driver‘s cabin which caused expansion of the latter as opposed to the trams operated in other cities.

The tramcars were also equipped with a more powerful system of cabin hot-air heating including doors air curtains permitting to maintain maximum comfortable temperature even in the coldest weather.

Cars operation within multiple units system (MUS) is provided which means that, in case of necessity, the trams may use two tramcars simultaneously.

Petersburg Tram-Mechanical Factory OJSC is going to produce trams for Volgograd city again.

In 2008-2009 PTMF supplied the first two trams of model 71-154 specially designed for the Metrotram system of Volgograd.

Metrotram is a modern transport system, providing high carrying capacity, speed and safety due to special technology design of the tram tracks and the rolling stock, 3 stations of this system built according to the metro standards – 3.3 kilometers of track lying underground.

By the end of 2010 PTMF is planning to have produced two trams of model 71-154, and in 2011 - five more cars for Metrotram new order. The contract implies a leasing payment scheme.

Model 71-154 is a unique shuttle tram in Russia with two operator’s cabs, which allows operating the tram without turning circles in the end of the route, and passengers being able to enter and leave the tram from either side depending on location of the platform.

The low-floor share in the new car is 50%, only 35 cm high. Thus, the passengers do not have to walk up any additional steps; passengers with baby buggies and disabled people only need to roll their transport into the car. To secure a wheel-chair in place, there is a special zone for it equipped with safety belts. Besides, there is a special signaling device to let the car operator know that a disabled person is going to leave the car and that the time of the stop should be prolonged. The car is equipped with selective door opening system, which keeps the car warm in winter by opening doors selectively or keeping them closed in case there are no passengers leaving the car; all the doors have an additional anti-jam function.

It takes minutes for a powerful heating system to warm the big passenger car with 52 seats, the maximum occupancy being 352 people.

The car is equipped with the automatic lubrication system for the car components which minimizes maintenance efforts. The exterior panels are made of polymer materials that eliminate corrosion.

Inside the car there are several video cameras, transferring images to the operator’s monitors with a special touch screen. All video information is recorded into a special so called blackbox, so that in case of a road accident or a disturbing conflict in the car the data could be used to facilitate the investigation. Another blackbox, intended for use by technicians, collects all reports of errors occurring while operating the car or reports of any equipment failures.

The car is equipped with an advanced control and operation system and an autonomous mode allowing moving away from a dead section.

Today the 71-154 model tram is the longest and the most modern tram car produced in Russia.

The design and full scale production of this model have considerably increased the possibilities of adjusting the low-floor tram family manufactured by PTMF OJSC to customer’s needs and to light rail transport (LRT) requirements.
