Model  81-556, 81-557, 81-558

Description

NeVa subway train based on car models 81-556, 81-557 and 81-558 is a unique domestic product, whereas its technical parameters, design and major engineering solutions are completely in line with international standards accepted by the world leading car makers.

Pursuant to previously signed license agreement, Skoda Transportation s.r.o. drafted accompanying engineering documentation in compliance with Terms of reference that considered as found completely satisfactory for Saint Petersburg Metropolitan GUP.

The train was designed for passenger transportation through underground subway systems and short sections of at-grade systems. It includes three types of cars:

 - head car with operator’s cab and motor (model 81-556);

 - intermediate car with motor (model 81-557);

 - intermediate car  - no motor (model 81-558);

Normally the train consists of six cars: two head cars, two intermediate with motors and two intermediate without motor. However, concept of the train allows to increase the number of cars up to eight.

Major benefits

  • Riveted car framework with absolutely flat exterior panels made of brand new material, looks stylish and weighs less than regular bodies;
  • Glued panes used in the car and operator's cab create sufficient seal and contribute to purity and simplicity of design;
  • Bogies were specially designed for this train. Car suspension was accomplished with controlled air bellows, which automatically maintains body elevation after boarding or alighting;
  • Journey becomes more comfortable, as cars are coupled with rigid drawbars, which provide rigid coupling and eliminate swinging of each individual car;
  • Traction system was made using rotary field motors, which substantially reduce power consumption (up to 30%) in running and braking modes due to power recuperation;
  • Comfortable environment inside the car created by forced vent system with air heating option provides required level of ventilation and substantially reduces noise level inside the car;
  • Modified and stylish interior was accomplished by combination of fire-resistant materials, specially designed lighting lines and original hand rails fully complies with standards and trends of leading European car makers;
  • Advanced higher-level train control system ensures control and diagnostics of all train systems;
  • Comprehensive digital information system has the following functions: Train announcing system, communication channel “passenger-operator”; scrolling text displays, display of information about current location of the train;
  • Video surveillance system installed inside the cars providing upon operator’s request information on the display in his cab;
  • Frontal part is made of metal framework skinned with fiberglass panels. The door in the frontal part of the car is specially designated for emergency evacuation of passengers;
  • Air conditioning system is installed in the operator’s cab;
  • The design of operator’s cab meets current human factor requirements and provides enhanced visibility accomplished by large windscreen, new-style rear sight mirrors and rears sight cameras, thus providing the operator with improved vision;
  • Operator's control panel is designed in compliance with Russian and European human factor requirements. Monitors are built in it displaying information from video cameras, as well as main system performance diagnostic data;
  • Comfortable operator's chair is made by a EC-based manufacturer.
